Use it in Google Sheets
Prefer to import the file yourself? Two steps:
- Open sheets.new — it creates a blank Google Sheet.
- Choose File → Import → Upload, pick
scholarship-tracker-template.xlsx, and select Replace spreadsheet.
What the template tracks
Three tabs, kept deliberately simple:
1 · Tracker
One row per scholarship, eleven columns:
- Scholarship name, Sponsor, Amount and Deadline
- Status — a dropdown with seven stages: ResearchingPreparingSubmittedInterviewWonNot selectedSkipped
- Essay required? — Yes / No / Short answers dropdown
- Docs needed (transcript, recommendations…), Application link, Date submitted, Decision date and Notes
Deadlines are color-coded automatically: a deadline turns yellow three weeks out and red inside a week, and the highlight clears once that row is submitted or decided.
2 · Dashboard
Formulas over the Tracker tab, updated as you type: applications in flight, submitted, won, the total amount you've applied for, the total amount won, and how many deadlines land in the next 7 days.
3 · How to use
Short instructions inside the file — including two habits worth keeping: never store portal passwords in a spreadsheet, and always apply on the sponsor's own site (and never pay anyone to apply).
Now fill it with scholarships
Finding scholarships is the hard part — a tracker is only as useful as what's in it. We keep a free, browsable list of thousands of real scholarships — deadlines checked continuously, no account or email needed to look.

Questions
- Does the template work in both Google Sheets and Excel?
- Yes. It is a standard .xlsx file. Excel opens it directly; in Google Sheets, import it with File → Import → Upload. The status dropdowns, dashboard formulas and deadline color-coding survive the import.
- Do I need to enter my email to download it?
- No. The download link is direct — no email, no account, no sign-up.
- What is the difference between the template and ScholarTracks?
- The template is a spreadsheet you update by hand. ScholarTracks does the same tracking automatically — matching, deadlines and application status in one place — and creating an account is free.
