About this scholarship
The Cummins First Generation Women of Color Scholarship will be awarded to students whose intended school must be HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Institutions) or HSI (Hispanic Serving Institutions). Preference will be given to candidates from under-represented groups, candidates demonstrating financial need, veterans, and candidates with disabilities. The minimum GPA for collegiate or graduate applicants is 3.0, and the minimum GPA for emerging first-year applicants is 3.5. SWE scholarships support students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, and fields related to engineering. Applicants must be studying at an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology or computing in the upcoming academic year. Students who attend an ABET-accredited community college program are also eligible to apply. A SWE membership is not required to apply. However, becoming a SWE member may qualify applicants for additional scholarships and add additional points to the applicant's application review score. The scholarship reviewers focus on extracurricular activities, work history, volunteerism, and interest and involvement in STEM. Applicants must submit one reference, either from someone who can speak to the applicant's academic work, such as a teacher, or someone who knows the applicant well and can speak to their character, such as a coach or supervisor. Students entering their first year of undergraduate study, including high school seniors, may apply from December 1, 2025 - February 2, 2026. Undergraduates entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year or pursuing graduate studies may apply from February 10, 2026 - March 31, 2026. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Society of Women Engineers for more information.
